Push It To the Limit

Maya seems to like crashing. A lot.
That has more or less been my day this Tuesday. I built levels based upon the 2D level layouts. We also have a modular approach to our level building and as mentioned in previous posts, we use grids to quickly iterate.
One square in the grid is one model.
The downside, as I and one of our artists experienced, is that when a level consists of 500+ models, it will crash non-stop. So it took a loooong time to actually finish creating a 3D version of a level.
On the other hand, this traumatizing event also helped us realize that we need, besides the small models, larger chunks that can be placed wherever larger platforms are.
Hopefully this will prevent frequent crashes. I will "hold my thumbs", as we say in Sweden!
